Female Neanderthals

Stereotypes (stereo: solid, fixed; type: image, form, kind) exist in many areas of life. They are generalised and simplified notions that can shape our thoughts, expectations, and even our understanding of history. In exhibitions, films, books, and images, male Neanderthals are often at the forefront. These portrayals reflect stereotypes of the strong Neanderthal man. But do they truly represent the diversity of Neanderthal communities?

The exhibition Stereotypes Neanderthalerin takes a comprehensive look at Neanderthals, shedding light on what we know about Neanderthal women, children, and older individuals – and where gaps in our knowledge remain.
