Planet B

100 Ideas for a New World

NRW-Forum Düsseldorf
2016
Düsseldorf, Germany

The exhibition project Planet B explored alternative visions for the future, presenting an exhibition as a living organism.

This international group exhibition tackled the profound transformations shaping our planet—searching for a Plan B, a future we all aspire to. Five hundred years after Thomas More’s Utopia, artists, designers, architects, scientists, and entrepreneurs shared their visions for the 22nd century.

From food hacking and smart cities to alternative economies and sustainable consumption, the artists proposed tangible alternatives, directly addressing social, political, and economic challenges. The exhibition not only showcased these ideas but actively implemented them—both within the exhibition space and in public settings.

At its core stood a research station: a walk-in, rocket-shaped installation by the artist collective Labor Fou, where artists lived and worked as part of a residency program. Alongside it, a group exhibition extended into public space, bringing further utopias to life.
